After the disappointing Fool's Paradise, I finished my day with an absolute triumph involving a cast member from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Been looking forward to this for a while and it's everything I hoped for. Matt Johnson is such an interesting filmmaker and he's managed to craft an entertaining biopic that's still full of his eccentricity and sense of humour.

The rise and fall of BlackBerry is not just a tale of human greed, but something of a…

    Not for me sadly.
Had this sitting on my shelf for a while and had high hopes for it.

Brit Marling has a great screen presence, William Mapother is good too but I never bought their chemistry. Found the film to be hollow and a little masturbatory. Rhoda is basically a sociopath and there are so many character moments that just feel overly twee or don’t make sense.

Neat concept, but found it a bit of a chore despite some promising elements. Still keen to check out Cahill’s I Origins which I hear is much better.

For all the raves about how shocking and fucked up it is, this film is empty. It's devoid of any message or meaning, and is mostly just weird and shocking for the sake of being weird and shocking.
I use the word shocking lightly though, because it's really…

    MIFF 2022 #16

Winner of the runner up prize at Cannes this year, Close is the story of two 13 year old boys who’s lifelong friendship begins to break apart after their closeness begins to attract questions and bullying from their classmates.

Yikes. Cannot remember the last time a film tried so hard to make me cry without even coming close. This is misery porn in the worst way, the kind of filmmaking that belongs in the 90’s. But it’s…
