My annual May 4th watch, the film that started it all. Star Wars (also known as Star Wars: A New Hope) will always be for me the quintessential popcorn film essentially. Every moment of it is filled with new wonder and joy.

Nostalgia may play a large role in it but even as in a modern-day viewing the pacing of most of this film, save for the moments that are the adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO, are near perfection. The…

Going to try and keep this as spoiler free as possible. This film was 100% unexpected in so many ways, lets start with the fact that this is Pixar's most mature film by far, more so than Inside Out or Wall-E which both are very much films that border on (or in my opinion with Inside Out flat out is) being adult films. Sometimes you just want a dumb fun action adventure film with the Rock. And this falls into that perfectly. Plot actually isn't as predictable as I expected and chemistry of leads keeps film entertaining.

This might have gotten 2.5 stars if Space Jam song was in it but its not and that knocked it down to 2 stars. Those 2 stars are for the few funny jokes in the film but this is just bad, much worse than the original.

Think back to 2nd grade, now 5th, now 12th, and now everything in-between. Think about the most memorable moment from them, that is what Boyhood feels like, the most memorable moments of a life for 12 years. In this case the life of Ellar Coltrane's Mason who, along with writer/director Richard Linklater's daughter Lorelei as is his sister Samantha, we watch grow-up over the course of the film. We see them in small, sometimes seemingly…

Even without Soul in December I would consider 2020 a good year for Pixar with this film. I've watched it three times now and each time get something new out of it. Films about brothers and their bond is so rare and it was great to see one from this beloved studio. It is however in the form of a fairly standard, at times predictable, and chezey D&D like fantasy adventure. The character arcs however easily make up for that…
