    It only took me a few minutes into Ida to realize I was watching a perfect film.

    Shot in Academy ratio, in high contrast black and white, with the majority of it filmed on static tripods, rather than steadicams or dollies or the like... These aspects of Ida, along with beautiful composition and a fine eye for framing, make this film so appealing. All of that paired with a touching, sad, realistic story and good pacing, make it complete.

    The Blood of A Poet is a really wondrous film, especially, or maybe in spite of, its time. Not only does it stand out starkly as the piece of poetic art and commentary that it is in itself, but also within its era as a beautiful example of classical styles blended with Baroque surrealism (although Cocteau has many times denied it being a Surrealist film and claimed there was no such thing when he thought of it, despite The Surrealistโ€ฆ

    Knocking out two Hooptober 8 movies tonight I guess, which is fine as I'm planning to add onto my list quite heavily. If anyone else is looking for this without renting or subbing to HBO, at least as of right now (09/16/21) it's streaming on the Plex app for free.

    I don't think I've ever watched anything else by Henri-Georges Clouzot, so this will be a first for me. I hear nothing but good things about this film, and inโ€ฆ
