Like a rabid Wolf in Heat!
Piss and vinegar, blood and glory.
A sheer tour full of madness and gore through the heaviest of times, with a story that is as old as humanity itself. The eerie fantasy elements is what cements this revenge tale of Shakespearean proportion, which in fact is the story of Hamlet, and our "Hero" is named Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård in a incredibly beasty performance), which should be indication enough.
The fine details and the razor sharp camera is again what sells this movie from Robert Eggers. Every dirty nook and building are realistic to a fault, with a raw, explosive energy you rarely see from a Studio like Focus/Comcast today. A single camera capturing all these sets and extras, running around in pretty authentic looking and sounding scenarios with a perfect sense of dread and toxic masculinity! An exciting movie that brings a time to life, that was definitely a low point for humanity and even if I'm not into Vikings much, I truly can appreciate the historic accuracy and lunacy presented here.
