Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ★★★★★

“Now there's a way,
and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.”

Oh, Guardians Vol. 2.

This film fills up my heart like no other. I’ve always been a defender of this sequel, but it’s only grown in my mind since I first saw it back in May 2017. Rarely does a film land an emotional impact so effectively on a first viewing and still continue to deliver those blows on every subsequent watch.

I have so many special memories and moments attached to this film (and don’t even get me started on that glorious soundtrack), and I’m just so thankful it exists.

Thankful for this cast.

Thankful for this story.

Thankful for this weird little world.

Thankful that we got a film out of the MCU that feels like it’s in its own little bubble outside of the typical “universe-building” mumbo jumbo.

Thankful that James Gunn was able to make a movie that focused so intently on fleshing out his compelling, charismatic cast of assholes and aliens alike with a unique blend of pathos and wit that only he could conjure up.

(Annnnd also thankful that we received Space Kurt Russell who delivers one of the finest villain performances in the MCU without debate)

This film is its own unique, quirky gem, and I can’t wait to see how they wrap up the trilogy. Endgame is bound to emotionally devastate me beyond repair, but I don’t know if another Marvel film can possibly ever ascend to the dizzying heights of Vol. 2 in my eyes.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go listen to “Brandy” on repeat until the day I die.
