An incredibly heartfelt and at times incredibly sad movie. This is what i wanted from all those other Chaplin movies. A movie where the story and melodrama is supported by slapstick, not the other way around. The opening quote boils the movie down so perfectly.
"A Picture with a smile - and perhaps, a tear."
Definitely my favorite of Chaplin thus far. Or rather, the only one i've really liked thus far. Utterly fantastic. Especially the pancake scene.
