Zack Heisey’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is far from a compelling narrative but the rumors are true — Sam gets to COOK, baby! I was cackling like an idiot through the whole back half of this thing. I had such a great time and that’s the most important thing here, not furthering the larger narrative of the MCU or whatever the fuck people are bitching about. Raimi showed me people getting fucking wrecked by magic and weird undead dudes so I am a happy camper.
Honestly, I’m conflicted about what I want next from Raimi. He’s well suited for the mystical weirdness of the Dr. Strange character and this is the first movie in the entire franchise to actually show any personality in its filmmaking. But I also don’t want him getting sucked into the corporate machine. Whatever his next project may be, I desperately hope it doesn’t take another 9 years to see it.
