X 2022
An obvious throwback to classic 70s horror within the era of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but for me personally it doesn’t do enough to surpass a lot of the classics from that era. The first half of the movie didn’t really offer much besides the characters filming their porno, normally that’s the cliché and it works almost every time but with this movie I wish they didn’t spend as much time as they did on that, don’t get me wrong…

Rififi 1955
What a blast. The alarm testing/prep sequence is amazing. The heist itself is perfect. The whole thing has an air of realism that is often missing from these type of flicks. The titular song is a banger and the shadow performance adds a nice visual element. The post-heist wraps everthing up nicely while remaining engaging. It's quite bleak and sad. Despite characters' flaws I found them to be well constructed and full. The balloon scene feels thematically important. Our gang pulls it off only to lose their grasp on the situation, imparting fatal consequences upon themselves.

Creep 2 2017
That last scene should have been deleted, if you know you know.
Interesting sequel but I don't think I will watch the third, two is enough. The acting is good and I like how you can tell the difference in framing from Sara (videographer) compared to Aaron (weirdo).
I do think this is slightly more interesting than the first one but similarly I'm both films the jumpscares were predictable and didn't get me once. I was definitely creeped out of course but I don't feel the need to have those typical jumpscares in.
I would watch encounters on yt.

The Souvenir 2019
I'm kind of drunk right now, so this will definitely suck, but I want to say it anyway.
As far as my "film criticism" goes, I never asked too much of a movie. I really have no property whatsoever to be picky or demanding about them at all, even though I've been there many times, obviously. But now that I think about it, there was always something missing for me in most of the stuff that I watched. Something I…

Bad Times at the El Royale 2018
The neo noir mystery thriller provides decent entertainment with its interesting characters, wacky situations, good performances, terrific soundtrack and solid cinematography. Though it starts promisingly with it’s structure reminding one of Coen brothers and Tarantino, it misses out on the much needed crazy high moments of eccentric bonkers. It also dips at many places with an overstretched runtime. Nevertheless ends up a fun watch as a whole.

Mission Mangal 2019
A decent drama that’s letdown by its writing, ending up entertaining only in parts. In an effort to be more accessible, it opts for a cliche narrative loaded with familiar stereotypes and tropes, diluting the gravity of the actual mission. Among the cast, Vidhya Balan and Akshay Kumar get to score the most and both deliver solidly engaging performances.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl 2020
An inspiring and well crafted biographical drama about the 1st indian female air-force pilot in combat, Gunjan saxena. Janhvi kapoor does a strong job in reprising the titular character, while Pankaj Tripati as her father takes the standout honors. The father-daughter emotions were well conceived and make the drama all the more impactful. Despite of the genre cliches, the final hour solidly hooks you in with good detailing. A good watch.

When Harry Met Sally... 1989
Even after decades, the feel good romantic comedy carries the same level of infectious charm and wit. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan share a fantastic chemistry and make the relationship conversations all the more enjoyable and engaging.

Chungking Express 1994
"With a little time, I get used to things."
A second viewing of Wong Kar Wai's Chungking Express brought a renewed appreciation for his ability to get a point across using atmosphere. It's such a quiet film consisting of relatively little conversation. Some of the sentiments are described during introspective yet goofy metaphors spouted by our narrators, but a lot of the ideas are inexplicably digested in a more tangible manner. Candlelit deli counters and flooded apartments become very meaningful…

The French Connection 1971
“alright popeye’s here. get your hands up and backs on the wall!”
gene hackman dressed as santa clause, beats the crap out of a guy in an alley. that’s it. that is the review opener. a jazzy, hand-held documentation of an inverted metropolis, begrimed and boiled to adrenaline perfection—the french connection distills big city chaos into a sort of gloomy hued law-enforcing nihilism. procedural ethos, whisky-soaked and desensitized by one’s own wisdom, the impulse of bullets as logic. operatic tunnel…

Love and Anarchy 1973
Love and Anarchy.
Let's be honest, I was in love with this movie ever since I read its title. But the love only grew stronger over the course of the 2 hours its running time.Second Lina Wertmüller film in two days and I loved it just as much if not more than the first one. This is a film about the private and the public sphere, personal responsibilities in a totalitarian regime as well as concepts and realities of…
