Score: 10/10
Stand out: Jake Gyllenhaal
Donnie Darko is an incredibly captivating and confusing movie that rightfully earned a cult following after its release.
Teenager Donnie Darko is told by a mysterious figure in a bunny suit that the world is going to end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds.
This is a phenominal movie. Each scene is seemlessly put together while they all have some hidden meaning that you may only notice on the rewatch. It has so many fascinating details, brilliant dialogue and is so intelligent.
This is the movie that made Jake Gyllenhaal's career. He is absolute dynamite throughout the whole movie. His portrayal makes Donnie both detestable and loveable at the same time. He seems to personify teen angst and psychopathy.
Donnie Darko is one of those movies that is more than just a movie. It is an experience that can be endlessly dissected and would still be impossible to uncover all of its secrets.
