The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption ★★★★★

This is one of my biggest blind spots in cinema that I have wanted to watch for a long time. I have heard such over the top universal praise for it not only by reviews, but by friends and people I know who have watched it. Today I finally got to watch it for the first time. There was one big question I was scared to find out; would it live up to the hype I have heard around it?
It does. There are a lot of amazing moments in this film. The acting is good, especially Morgan Freeman. I am usually not a big fan of films having voiceovers, but with Freeman not only acting in the movie but also narrating it, it’s really easy to get used to. I think he is one of the few actors I can listen to without getting sick of him. Tim Robbins is also pretty good.
The story was really well done and always interesting, and there was never a moment of boredom. I have never read any Stephen King, but I have watched some of the film adaptations. And there are a few moments that made me tear up.
This is not a perfect movie, as there are a couple of moments that slow down a bit. But those moments are not very noticeable and I can look past that flaw. It is a truly excellent movie that will stick with me for a while. I will say three words I almost never say when I watch a movie; I loved it.
Grade: A+
