Uh... this was a thing. There was a lot to appreciate here and a perfectly dry humor, but I never got what Lanthimos was doing either narratively or thematically. I like a good unimpenetrable flick every once in awhile, but the movie kind of begs the audience to care about what's happening like a carrot on a stick that gives no inclination we'll ever reach it.
And in some respects, that's fine. The robotic approach to the sparse universe the characters inhabit is interesting. Hell, if not for the attempts at what might be unearned melodrama, this would probably be bumped up a few notches.
