Long-winded goober ramblings.
Favorites are whatever has recently blown my mind.
Even better the second time around. After my full write-up on this movie, I still haven’t run out of good things to say about it. It’s also ridiculous that I feel like I have to defend this movie, it RULES.
First half is absolutely batshit, incoherent, every-single-editing-trick mania and I absolutely loved it. While intensely assaulting on the senses and self-indulgent, it’s exactly the kind of thing that’s emblematic of the man himself. While I definitely enjoyed the first half more, I completely understand the necessity to slow things down in the last chunk, but I wish it could have still been a little more exciting than the complete shift to (mostly still good) generic biopic territory.
Pacing is noticeably…
Drove two hours to see the this in theaters for the 40th anniversary re-release, just for it to be a really shitty transfer, have the surround sound mixed improperly, and miss the opening sequence because the theater lights never got shut off. But still an amazing experience simply because I can literally never not enjoy watching this movie.
The chest chomp through the blood testing scene is one of the best 30 minute runs ever made.
Deep lore that’s absolutely horrifying and simultaneously makes the villains sympathetic? Triple yes.
