Good luck not falling apart if you’re close to your siblings. Just absolutely devastating stuff and Zac Efron is so shockingly great here. I didn’t know he had it in him. The Iron Claw does a fantastic job of making the love between these brothers feel so deep and real before everything is ripped away. I was a puddle of tears, especially in those final minutes. I knew they wrote one brother out and it didn’t really bother me going…

Like all of the Miyazaki films I’ve seen, I really enjoyed The Boy and the Heron while watching but it’s in the hours afterwards, when I have had a chance to sit with it for a while, that I realize it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It’s likely the densest Miyazaki film, with a number of themes and a barrage of ideas being thrown at the viewer but it all comes together with an emotionally complex and…

A very good follow up that is a big upgrade in terms of emotional storytelling (cartoon baby animals remain undefeated) but is also a step back in terms of action. Nothing here comes close to the prison escape or the rope bridge fight in part 1, but I’ll give a very slight edge to part 2 on the fact that I may have shed a tear or two.

I’m overwhelmed. As a fan of the book, I couldn’t ask for much more from an adaptation of the first half of Dune. It is a lot of table-setting, but it creates the world(s) of Dune in such an incredibly tangible way and establishes the pieces that will be at play in Part 2 (fingers crossed). It’s half a movie, yes, but it’s half of a damn good movie. This is all in addition to being a technical marvel in every way you can think of. My eyes, ears and brain all hurt and it feels good, man.

    Everything Everywhere All at Once

This movie is everything, like in the literal sense. The title is appropriate. I'm not sure I've ever seen something with this many ideas per minute. But here's the thing: yes, it is a multiversal action comedy that throws an astounding amount of wacky shit at you. But for all the buttplugs and hot dog fingers, everything is in service of and orbits around the interior journey of the Wang family. As the credits rolled, I was barely functioning due…
