I tried to stay away from reading reviews before taking in Dune Part Two, but the 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, the comparisons - to The Empire Strikes Back, Two Towers, The Dark Knight, etc - were hard to ignore.
After Dune (2021) came out, many people complained about it being only “half a story” and not having much action, so Part Two would theoretically be the easier film to digest. This is the payoff! Right? Right?! And, uhhh sort of!…
My first Miyazaki experience in theaters, and I sat as close to the screen as I comfortably could. I was so excited for this, had been waiting all year for it. Avoiding trailers, reviews, promotional images, Robert Pattinson’s voice (even though I ended up seeing it subbed out of necessity anyway).
Though, I knew it was once titled “How Do You Live?” so my expectation was that the movie would explore that question and would spend most of its time…
I mentioned in my first review of Dune Part Two that I would have more to say after seeing it a second time.
And yeah, to be honest with you, I left more speechless after round two than I did after my first viewing on Sunday night.
I’ve never seen anything that’s made me feel quite like this. The sheer scale and spectacle is hard to comprehend. The world-building is so intimate that it almost feels like a real place…
the last like 5 movies I’ve seen have exuded some sort of “dudes rock” energy, so really needed a movie with a bit of “dudes suck” energy to balance it all out
big, big fan of this one. loved it even more this time around and was bowled over when I saw it in theaters. quickly rising my best of the decade list. and NO OSCAR NOMS????!!!
