As a rule, and as a deliberate correction from my wild youth as a YouTube comment warrior, I try not to indulge in any hard-line opinions. No extremist hot takes. No dismissing anyone else's experience. No pretense that my views on movies are in any way objective.

In short, I try to not be an asshole. The world has enough of those. Everyone has opinions. Some may be better informed. Some may be better articulated. But it's not my place to…

It’s the texture of this movie that pulls you in.

The grit and grime and haze; the grainy film stock, the sweaty scenes shot with an anxious, claustrophobic camera. The sound of hands flipping through stacks of cash. The violence, the blood, the rust on the getaway car.

And even though the blood is that bright orange movie blood, the scene is set, the world is built. It feels alive and dangerous. The portrait of a city on edge.

    But…

So anyway, this is A24's On Deadly Ground.

    Godammit.

This has been Yo_Roboto denigrates a work of righteous, tangible fury and reverent guilt with a stupid twitter review because he lacks the emotional intelligence and cultural empathy to meaningfully comment on it.

The haunting manifestation of your guilt only goes away when you finally admit you're willing to kill it...

    Bad Company

    ★★

A jazzy, breathy corporate spy thriller? Laurence Fishburne using every frame to leave no doubt about his status re: fucking? Ellen Barkin with solid evidence for a civil suit against her hair stylist? Set in the 90s’ sexiest city... Seattle?

It feels like it should add up to more than a lesser Deep Cover B-side, but that’s what happens when you’re too horny to function. You lose track of the plot and you start throwing sex scenes at Frank Langella.

    Huh.

    Let’s see… How about… A Wick too far?

I’m as surprised as you, but I can’t help but be slightly disappointed. My nagging dread as I left the theater after Chapter 3 has come to fruition. They should’ve found a way to end this with 3. But I guess doing 4 is better than doing 5?

    Rating-wise, I guess I’m still throwing 4 at it, but it’s a disappointed 4 that feels like it could’ve been 5. The “Disappointed…

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

    ★★★★½

Yo when the SWAT team shows up in body armor and it totally fucks up John Wick’s playstyle is probably the most I’ve ever emotionally connected to an action hero.

I’m honestly not even going to talk about how good the action is here, because everybody already knows. It’s unrivaled. They’re doing fight scenes with horses better than most movies can do with fists. Just absolutely stunting on the competition. John Wick movies have always had a pretty close analog…
