Moonlight

Moonlight ★★★★½

Tenderness encapsulated. The emotional equivalent to being sung to sleep, then waking up to dust dancing under the sunlight, blankets brushing past skin like water as if floating on the center of the Earth. The childhood segment was like a flashback, it's always the facial expressions that we remember first, since they carry the most impact, the rest are a haze, vision with edges blurred. The second chapter is important for the hardest part is not discovering one's own identity, but the struggle for acceptance, both from oneself and from others, which I think the film didn't quite fully capture. Nevertheless, one tiny flaw does not make the power of Moonlight any less overwhelming, it may not be a revolutionary masterpiece, but an extremely crucial film to watch and digest.
