Johnny Roastbeef’s review published on Letterboxd:
I struggled with this film for the first half. It wasn’t clear to me where it was going or what it was trying to achieve that would set it aside from what had already been done before from a comedy viewpoint. Then everything changed around the point when Stephen Merchant’s character was introduced. The story climbed to a whole new level from here on, which in turn justified the film’s entire existence. Taika Waititi‘s ability to capture comedy, drama and the horror’s of war in a single shot or scene was simply incredible. A great film with a very impressive performance from Roman Griffin Davis as ‘Jojo’ and inspiring direction from Waititi.
