A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master ★★★½

“How’s this for a wet dream!”

The concept for this one is not very good, but it still ends up being an enjoyable (and sometimes bizarre) ride with plenty of ‘80s charm. I mean, you’ve got Freddy as classroom teacher (Learning is Fun with Freddy), a water bed drowning, a karate-kid-like montage (“Fuckin’ A”), and, to top it all off, a Freddy Krueger rap in the credits. Honestly, I like it as much as any of the other entries.

The body horror is on point, with people turning into Kafkaesque bugs, tiny living heads appearing as pizza toppings, and souls getting physically released from Krueger’s body like a bunch of mini Voldemorts (a satisfying conclusion!). Pay no heed to the ridiculous revival of Freddy Krueger at the start of this. He’s sure to be back again in the sequels, too: “I. Am. Eternal.” Nightmares never really end.
