wounded kite’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Men" is one of those movies where every element seems to be in service of The Allegory. The performances from Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear are fantastic, and the cinematography is as wonderful as anything in Garland's previous (and superior) two efforts, "Ex Machina" and "Annihilation," but this feels like one long dream sequence of a movie, where nothing seems to be rooted in any kind of physical or emotional reality. It's always engaging thanks to Garland's impressive command of filmmaking, but never do I feel any investment in the bizarre parade of incidents happening to the main character. A pretty major disappointment overall, and may be the tipping point (for me at least) where these A24 horror movies about Trauma and Grief start dipping into self-parody.
