The Peanut Butter Falcon 2019
One of the most genuinely feel-good pleasers of the year. Shia LaBeouf tops himself again turning in arguably his best performance of his career (well, I have to see Honey Boy of course, so at least for the moment) even better than his brilliant turn in American Honey. It’s great to see him back. Dakota Johnson is very good & looks more beautiful by the day. Zack Gottsagen is great, a national treasure. Thomas Haden Church, Bruce Dern & John Hawkes are…

Mud 2012
Still a fantastic balance between character study, adventure and even western elements. Its tone and themes resembles both The Place Beyond the Pines and The Kings of Summer, but it's way more concise than the first and less shallow, so significantly more mature than the latter. McConaughey's best performance to this date.

Lean On Me 1989
"They use to call me crazy Joe. Well now they can call me Batman"
This is Morgan Freeman at his best! What a damn brilliant performance by him Being Mr. Clark. I respect everything Joe Clark did for EastSide high. That must have been an exhausting job turning that whole high school around with only a deadline of less than a year. It's people like Mr. Clark that I truly appreciate in this world. What a story this was... I'll keep cheering for EastSide High to lead on to victory.

The Unforgivable 2021
Welcome back, Sandy. It’s good to see you again. Wow, The Unforgivable is a lot to unpack for. It’s heavy-handed, there’s certainly issues with it’s “plot-choosing” which is where the weakest aspect of the movie comes in and that’s the writing which is average at best and while, I thought the bleak twist was fine, I did had some trouble “believing” well, let’s just say that rifle is “heavy” lol. But Sandra Bullock acts her butt off in what I…

Heroic Losers 2019
Me: 😟
Ricardo Darín: "LA PUTA QUE PARIÓ!"
Me: 😊
It's a confidently made, class-conscious, comedic heist movie (read: kind of an Argentinian 'Logan Lucky) with some truly top-tier cursing, a great soundtrack and in which an anarchist and a Peronist argue, but still work together to get the job done (sticking to the rich). I don't know what else anyone could possibly want. There's about 10 minutes of fat and the emotional beats don't hit as hard as they're set up to, yet as far as non-artsy middlebrow crowd-pleasers go this is as good as they come.

The French Dispatch 2021
For a very anticipated film (with the strong aesthetic and incredibly talented cast ensemble) I was ultimately underwhelmed.
I know you can never have it all, but this film was lacking in many places. The acting was strong, the cinematography was pleasant, but the concept and story that this film tries to sell is stylistic at best, and achingly confusing at worst.
It is always a worry when you get to the end of a film and you can neither…

Kindergarten Cop 1990
Just realised this whole film's outcome hangs on a self aware ferret's perception of good & evil.

Gravity 2013
Yes, believe all the hype. Every bit of it. As Alfonso Cuaron just gave me one of the most jaw-dropping, intense, gorgeous and mind-blowing experiences of my life with Gravity. Sandra Bullock gives her best performance of her career (oscar-worthy, too). Giving an amazingly panicked and very convincing scared-as-heck performance as Dr. Ryan Stone especially in that long scene you see in the trailers. George Clooney is very good as well but this is clearly Bullock's show and all the…

Paranoia 2013
From Wikipedia:
Paranoia /ˌpærəˈnɔɪə/ (adjective: paranoid /ˈpærənɔɪd/) is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs, or beliefs of conspiracy concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. (e.g. "Everyone is out to get me.")There is not one single character in this film that is paranoid. Not one. This is mainly due to the fact that everyone knows, audience included, who is spying…

Arrival 2016
A movie as deeply interested in exploring its unbelievably heady themes as in truly captivating both its audience's attention and imagination. What Villeneuve and his crew do with this film's structure is something nearly indescribable. Laying out the raw foundations of the reasonably cerebral language concepts that are vital to the story, without never underestimating the spectator, in order to genuinely deconstruct our normal perception of time through the narrative, and most importantly, the filmmaking is nothing short of miraculous.…
