Troublesome Night 3 1998
I don't know what deal with the devil Herman Yau made, but after his extremely poor showing on the previous two Troublesome Night movies, this is an almost unbelievable step up.
It may be that the budget was upped after the success of the first two movies, as this is all a lot slicker. There are still not really any special effects to speak of, but the camera moves, there's more thought to set ups and lighting, and the cinematography…

Prince: Rave un2 the Year 2000 2000
A long time ago, Prince screamed "Can I play my guitar?" then played the solo to She's Always in My Hair while dressed in a blue PVC jumpsuit.
This was where humanity peaked. It's been downhill ever since.

Scream 4 2011
This was pretty good! Sitting here thinking about why this works and the reboot doesn't for me, and it's clear that the difference is the Wes Craven/Kevin Williamson team. The horror sequences are scary and tense, and the writing stays just on the right side of too-smug and knowing. The new characters are mostly forgettable, though Hayden Panettiere's Kirby does have her moments, but they're a good deal better than the total nonentities in Scream 2022. Still, the last half…

Scream 3 2000
The story is nonsense but there's a lot of fun to be had here. Sidney, Dewey etc running around a film set seems like an appropriate natural end point for the series, and the finale in a Scooby Doo haunted mansion is great. After suffering through the dire fifth installment a few months ago, this was, frankly, a breath of fresh air.

Tiger Cage II 1990
The best action in the series, and pretty much the worst everything else. The plot and characters are all kind of dull, and Donnie Yen and Rosamund Kwan don't really have any chemistry to speak of. There's an injection of humour that never really lands. The dramatic scenes also feel exceptionally utilitatian in their cinematography, like Yuen Woo Ping was like 'just point the camera a them and get it over with, no one cares about this stuff'.
The action…

Warriors of Future 2022
Terrific, ambitious, blockbuster filmmaking, even if the script feels very flat in places, and every character is a walking bag of cliches. The fact that this was made with a fraction of the money of say, a Marvel movie, yet somehow looks better in many respects is a small miracle.
Although those characters aren't hugely compelling, the constant barrage of action is really, really fun, as is the novelty of seeing Louis Koo, Lau Ching Wan, Carina Lau and Phillip…
