as fascinatingly homophobic as it is homoerotic, as lost in its own nightmare as it is grounded in a lore that has barely had time to breathe. so much to love, particularly in how formally and narratively adjacent to clive barker’s work it feels as opposed to any nightmare film, while also a lot to find exhausting about its confused sense of self. and those weird fire powers will simply never be good despite resulting in some exquisite imagery.
