Roma ★★★★½

Roma is a challenging film to watch because of the gut-wrenching reality portrayed on screen. The story follows a young woman named Cleo in her life as a servant to a family. We follow her through hardships and danger as the political unrest in the city surrounding her worsens. My favorite portion of the film is the meticulous details put into the sound design. My favorite scene in the entire film is once the father comes home and he reverses and drives forward repeatedly to enter the skinny garage. The music blasting on the radio perfectly contrasts the monotonous action of the repeated driving and is striking to the audience in adding a sense of mystery to the man behind the wheel. Along with the fantastic camera pans and tilts the scene becomes wonderful. Overall, Roma is a fantastic film that utilizes every second of screen time to tear your heart apart.
