Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace ★★

Honestly, there was so much potential here, it almost hurts to see how it turned out. Elements of greatness can be found, namely in the superb music from John Williams, an initially interesting political approach, and some fine performances from Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor. However, Lucas’ horribly muddled script immediately squanders any hopes of quality. With a godawful pace, horrendous visual effects, terrible dialogue, and an overall disinterest in character development, The Phantom Menace shows it’s true colors quickly, as it becomes a disappointing, lazy, and overall disorganized introduction to the prequel trilogy.
