Suzanne’s review published on Letterboxd:
I've heard so much about this movie, but nothing prepared me for how bad it was. Good grief.
There are so many dutch angles that it reminded me of Thor (2011) or Battlefield Earth. The characters are horrible. The acting is horrible. The screenplay is horrible. There is so much exposition and flashbacks from previous scenes that it made me scream internally. How stupid does Adam Wingard think I am, as an audience member? I respect myself to a certain extent, ya know. Good grief.
I've seen exactly one episode of Death Note, and yet I still felt betrayed from the source material. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly fine with a film adaptation changing ANYTHING they want, as long as it makes sense and improves the original material. But it felt like they just changed things to make it more generic and westernized. Good grief.
