The story telling & character work is definitely still very paper thin by all means, but honestly I just dig the old school monster vibe that "Kong: Skull Island" has going for it, and it holds a little better than I remember. The ace level cast also just elevates some pretty so so material, most especially Tom Hiddleston & John C. Reilly. The visual work & cinematography is just pretty breathtaking here, while Jordan Vogt-Roberts crafts some stellar set pieces. Whenever Kong is on screen, the film is certainly a lot of fun and I can apperciate it doesn't attempt to be much more than that at least.
