I had to read up on this film after finishing it just so I could fully understand what just happened. It’s genius.
The multiple layers of the story mixed in with the effortless editing allowed the film to flow so fluently. Fellini created 8 1/2 like a pure artist. The film is an absolute work of art. It’s almost like he created it with just one giant stroke with a paint brush on a giant canvas. So effortless and perfect.
The cinematography really knocked me back. Almost every scene had a rememberable shot. The framing and with help with props like mirrors, gave it more of a fantasy feel to it which created the sense of dreaming.
