Massive film fan, who has probably seen way too many movies. Leave me a comment and let me know if you think my opinion is right or wrong!
Sexy Beast 2000
Excuse me for never once in my life thinking of Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, or Ben Kingsley as a Sexy Beast. You'd also have to excuse me for thinking that Jonathan Glazer directed this movie. I guess this came first, but there is no way that the same person that directed this directed Under the Skin. This movie is like a Guy Ritchie movie, and not that his movies can't be awesome, but I'd probably start choking on my water…
You Hurt My Feelings 2023
Sorry Nicole Holofcener, but since you encouraged me to not tell any white lies, I gotta be honest, you (kinda) hurt my feelings. You didn't hurt them as bad as the last A24 movie I watched like Beau is Afraid, but they are still a little hurt. I just know what a great writer you are and the last directed movie I saw from you, that stared Julia Louis-Dreyfus was really damn good. And I mean good, as in good,…
Wow, I didn’t think anything could make the 1984 version of Dune look worse than it already did, but then Denis Villeneuve said hold my beer. It really is hard to believe that both of those movies were adapted from the same source material. David Lynch and Denis Villeneuve are both highly respected filmmakers to, so you would have to think, that both, not just Villeneuve could make a successful adaptation. Villeneuve has really come on strong in the past…
The King's Man 2021
Eggsy would be so god damn disappointed. This movie has virtually zero trace of what made the other two Kingsman films special. Those movies felt like they were James Bond/Mission Impossible movies, but if they were like “screw it” and made something totally unique. This movie kind of also says that but takes itself significantly more serious than even the most serious spy movies. Well except for the Rasputin scenes, but the less said about those scenes the better.
