My ranking of this franchise always put this one above Reloaded but looking back I'm second guessing. A lot of this movie is rehashing or attempting to one-up previous action scenes. Neo v Smith happens in all three, there's another lobby shootout, and a handful of other callbacks. The only action sequence that's actually novel to the series is the battle of the dock. To be fair, it's really outstanding stuff. And it all feels monumental, from start to finish. If the series ends on its weakest film, it's at least comforting that it ends with such a bang.
The Purge series: "What if crime was legal one day a year, and then the rest of the year there was no crime?"
The Forever Purge: "Ok ok ok, and then. What if some people did crime on the days that it was illegal? Wouldn't that be terrible?"
It's called, "doing crime".
Congratulations, you just made a crime thriller with extra steps
