Some pacing issues for me but I mean.. the music is just aces.
- lots of care in the story
- great acting all around, Smith and Bernthal were great. A good sense of family, too.
- that fart
- the cheesy, you're gonna be the greatest ever beginning like all other sports movies (before developing into something more of its own)
- cinematography is fine, mostly static but the tennis shots were fun.
David Lynch: Not having an oscar but his movie is so awesome the Academy creates a new catagory because of it and Tucker's abilities in makeup.
Super good film. For me, the pacing is right on and I was engaged throughout. I was really into Hopkins character Treves, and how he was justifying the decisions he made and if he was a good guy or not. Ultimately, those decisions resonated with the audience because we were asking the same questions…
Isabelle Adjani slayed it, and both she and Sam Neill put forth a lot in their roles physically. Some of those arguments were pretty real, too. The creature was a bit strange to say the least, and it's close up caused a seriously creeped out reaction from my wife.
However, I am struggling consistently with how it was edited, the jarring cuts were distracting at times, and some directing choices were odd... like the segment all forth…
