City of God

City of God ★★★★½

horrifying without being alienating, and stylish without ever indulging in its violence. raises so many questions about crime, class, and identity, but i think maybe most interesting is the way the camera (rocket’s and the filmmakers’) as a tool not only for documenting, but self-betterment (though even this has ambiguous moral implications).
