Antlers ★★★

I know every horror movie is About Trauma now, but this might be the Most Horror Movie About Trauma out of all the horror movies about trauma. It’s so aggressively fine that it’s tough to imagine having stronger feelings about it in either direction (aside from its foundations in Indigenous mysticism, which I presume will be justifiably skewered by many). It handles its thematic fixation on abuse and addiction competently and very, very overtly, to the point that there’s not really anything to discuss the second the credits roll. Solid ending, I guess. Every new horror movie I’ve seen this year is so serious that it retroactively makes me like Malignant even more.
