    Blaise Radley

★★★½ Watched by Blaise Radley 22 Jan 2023

Godard assembles some of his most shimmering imagery here, particularly in the moments of fast-paced montage, wistful and romantic and bittersweet all in one. Elsewhere his eye feels too sexless, too distanced, too self-involved to be swept up in. Easy to see the influence here though, particularly in the extended breakdown of the film’s central argument, laced with riddles and sliding camerawork, but found myself more unaffected than I’d like to be. At least it’s cute to see how enamoured he clearly is with Lang.

You shouldn't watch this movie, but if you're somehow forced into the position in seeing it, I hope you're in there with some friends and you can all talk through the trauma of seeing this absolutely horrendous experience. I'm not one to advocate being the disruptive presence in the cinema, but some films really deserve it.

Here are some activities that you might do while watching this movie to distract yourself from the movie and its super toxic portrayal of…

I liked the plot a lot but I got kind of lost at one point so I need to rewatch it. But I liked the ways the soundtrack were used.

'Simple Jack' for Aronofsky heads, or maybe his Norbit. Darren's latest case in miserabilism is an a24-produced theatrical adaptation that functions as both a saccharine weepie for people who use the #brendanissance hashtag and those who wish that 'my 600 pound life' somehow had less artistic integrity. This is a classic example of a movie being so unbearably full of itself that it, intermittently, transforms into a pretty funny parody of the very film it's attempting to succeed as.…
