    Quo Vadis, Aida?

This is a great film, and I’m embarrassed that I didn’t get around to it before Oscar night. Nothing against Another Round, which I loved, but this gets my vote for the latest Best International Feature Film Oscar.

This is a real movie with a very precise vision, which is all too rare for modern movies. Every shot is composed in what feels the most correct way possible, minimal score, impactful sound, flawless acting from performers I’d never seen before.

Top 10 of 2020,  certainly, and the damn thing is on Hulu for free. Watch it! What a fucking ending.

I heard Tarantino recommend this one twice, so it was time to make time for it. This movie is insane, it’s about a guy who escapes from prison just so he can murder his adulterous wife. A YOUNG Ian McShane co-stars. Great stuff.

Breezy, light Soderbergh. Heavily improvised script and shot mostly using only available lighting. It looks great, it moves, and Dianne Wiest steals the show. I also appreciated that you could tell that there was a person operating the camera. It’s a stark contrast to the “flawless” and flat aesthetic of most new streaming shows and movies.

Soderbergh, to me, you are perfect.

I rewatched this for the first time in more than a decade and holy god does it still work. Some movies do not hold up, others flourish with time. Heath gave an all-timer performance here.
