Warp’s review published on Letterboxd:
One of the best movies of 2020. An interesting portrayal of alcohol with its highs and lows. Luckily, in the end it doesn’t pass judgement, that’s up to the viewer.
Maybe it’s a bit your average ‘rise and fall’ structure and ‘enjoy life’-message but fortunately its execution is really good, it’s touching but it never comes off as false sentiment anywhere. Great characters are brought to the screen (although maybe Tommy’s character lacked a bit of motivation for certain things near the end) and Mads Mikkelsen is killing it again. What a charme he has. He’s not only a various actor, but also a great dancer.
Talking about that, the end scene is euphoric. Great contrast with the teachers and the students, a old and a new generation. Awesome song that somehow fits its subject matter perfect. A vintage Vinterberg.
