Knives Out

Knives Out ★★★½

A really solid 'whodunit' mystery that is gorgeously produced, packed with a tonne of personality, fantastic performances (particularly from Evans and Craig) & a narrative full of twists that will keep you guessing where events go.

Rian Johnson's directional style embodies what makes these kind of films great, yet also coming across as a modern parody on the genre with several nudges to the more ridiculous elements. All of it feels very intelligent & thought out, everything just feels so smooth and in control. You're always left with satisfaction at how beautiful the whole thing is which really helps you sink into what's being presented.

Everything from the cinematography to the musical choices is near perfect, as is everything on a production level. The presentation helps in emphasizing the claustrophobia a story like this needs as well as some fantastic little details mixed in. I will admit the film loses some steam when it leaves the confines of the main location it begins in, not bad but fails to be as captivating as it thinks it is.

This is yet another home-run in Rian Johnson's filmography, really solidifying himself as one of the most fascinating filmmakers working today. An easy recommendation to basically anyone.
