    Movie #3115: Promising Young Woman

    A gutpunch.

Promising Young Woman understands the modern world unlike most films as it tackles the dark reality underneath the fluffy, dreamlike exterior presented within in the film. It reflects modern society and the issues facing woman in a way that I wasn't fully prepared to grapple with until now. Being shown these dark acts and told these traumatizing stories by Cassie will shatter any barrier of misunderstanding that may exist between the sexes as…

Movie #2700: Portrait of a Lady on Fire

When it comes down to it, there was no way for this film to live up to my lofty expectations given what I have heard across film Twitter and Rotten Tomatoes. And while I am fairly devastated that I don’t quite find this to be the masterpiece everyone says it is, yet I do however, realize it’s concrete and objective beauty.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a unique vision…

My parents loved this (as expected)! Such a fun movie. I want my action heroes to be beat up and be creative with how they fight. Here, it’s some of the most brutal action ever and that’s just my cup of tea. Paired with the music and dark sense of humor and you’ve got a rewatchable winner comparable to John Wick and Mad Max Fury Road.

Movie #3236: No Time to Die

Paced very well for a three hour movie but it could have been streamlined a tad, but as the last Craig Bond film they had to tie all the loose ends. Where this film succeeds is in its depiction of its central character, the plot is nothing new for a spy movie and honestly there are some contrivances that extend the runtime. The character felt like they dawdled when this important plan was taking…

There was so much hype around the film when it initially was released, so I put this off until I caught up with most of the other A24 movies on Prime and now I'm asking a question I didn't think I'd ask: WHY WASN'T THIS NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE?!?!

Life through a child's eye is precious and Sean Baker executes the story of children at a motel more realistically and more perfectly than I think anyone could. When these children…

    Movie #2536: Joker

Joker is a movie that exists in our society.

I get it, I really do, y'all see this as a masterpiece. Well it isn't, it's just not that good. Joker has a great central performance from Joaquin Phoenix that deals with the physicality and absurd mental state of the Joker character, but is limited to the surface level when it comes to how the film handles him. The other aspects of the film that are really enjoyable…
