A cute broad proto-Mad Men farce, but I was hoping it would get more gonzo. One of the most 50s movies I’ve seen. I’m not a big technicolor guy but this looks reasonably good and needed color to work.
The beginning has a weird vibe but it fades into standard drab 90s cable mantasy. Spandau Ballet bassist is semi-nude a lot and hops around while painting. His bartender best friend is a character that saturated TV depictions of LA when I was a kid and made me resolve never to move to California (campy misogynists in colorful shirts). I enjoyed the opening credit “based on an idea by (the writer and one other guy)”. There are basically no ideas in this film so I am really wondering what that other guy contributed??

Thousands of civilians in a dozen countries killed as “collateral” in US airstrikes. 176,000 total dead in the Afghanistan war, including 46,000 civilians, and 24,000…
The kids these days with their social networks and their raucous folk music and their maypoles and their sex party in the grass.
