A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors ★★½

Welcome to A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, bitch!

It’s been so long since I’ve seen this one that I only remember small bits and pieces, so I’m almost coming into this blind. Dream Warriors isn’t as dark as the original and not nearly as funny as the second one. I still enjoyed it, but it could have been so much better. The Nun, Freddy’s mother, side story felt like it didn’t need to be there at all and didn’t really make sense to me; she’s a ghost who’s helping to defeat Freddy? I also wasn’t a fan of most of the third act. In the first one, and the second really, Freddy is defeated by someone overcoming their fear of him mentally and moving on emotionally, it takes away his power. This is just thrown out the window completely and instead we have a group of kids who share dream superpowers? What the fuck is that?

That puppet kid hanging from his tendons though, that’s gold, hands down on the of best slasher kills I’ve seen. I also really enjoyed the group of people this time around, they aren’t just Freddy fodder like in the other films, they each have a distinct personality and felt like real people. I don’t know, I guess I wish we got more comedy in this one. We did get “It’s Prime Time, Bitch!”, so that’s great. I’m torn between this one and the second one being my favorite. We’ll see, I’m going to keep trudging through. NOES 4: The Dream Master is next. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it, so I’m going in with no knowledge, so maybe it’ll blow the others out of the water?
