Alfonso Cuaron returns to his roots and crafts a personal tale of love, loss, family and turmoil set one year after Mexico hosted the Football World Cup.This has to be the most visually stunning film I have seen this year after Cold War shot by the man himself. Yalitza Aparicio steals the show every frame she is in. My only two minor niggles are that the film takes a tad too long to establish the settings and the director depicts the two main male characters as selfish assholes( a little more dimension would have helped especially for the father). The final 40 odd minutes is easily some of the most powerful film making of the year. Personally i may prefer Y Tu Mama Tambien as my favourite by the director but i have a very good feeling this film will only grow upon further viewings. Definitely worth checking out.
