  My biggest criticism/complaint actually isn’t the limited lens on feminism & the gender binary, the kid glove treatment of Mattel, or the ham-fisted homage to Ruth Handler; it’s the inclusion of America Ferrera’s husband. The Duolingo reference does kill me every time though.

  I won’t get too into it, but this was literally bad. It’s misogynistic throughout, but also lacks the finesse of Tarantino’s earlier movies. He’s always violent, but Hollywood is different. This isn’t a woman hunting down the man who ruined her life, or a Jewish woman taking out a room full of Nazis. In this context it is disturbing, and the level of ridiculous feels less satisfying to me and more like a male fantasy. The theme in this movie…
