Owen’s review published on Letterboxd:
yet another pathetic attempt from Marvel at showing that they’re capable of entrusting independent filmmakers with studio films (they’re not) and, additionally, showing that they can make films that are fresh, innovative, and thematically rich after all (they can’t). one of the most miserable films i’ve seen all year, just an embarrassment on every front. remember when it was reported that Lucrecia Martel revealed that Marvel approached her to direct Black Widow but that they would “take care” of the action scenes for her? now tell me with a straight face that Disney and Marvel actually care about filmmakers’ creative visions and don’t use them as means to promote these films as deeper than they are in order to be taken more seriously. at least give us a movie where every scene isn’t graded the same for once (and by the same, i mean like grey sludge). awful.
