Chris Brown’s review published on Letterboxd:
A very impressive film, though i kind of expected to get more out of it. I can totally picture many a folk saying it was "badass", but I expected something other than a fairly standard Hamlet inspired revenge tale from Eggers. I really expected it to knock me flat on me arse.
Still, I enjoyed it for it's whole run time. Kind of felt "The VVitchy" when the Northman devoted himself to making the king's life a living hell... but if it had been from the witch's perspective. And the filmmaking was astounding.
But I probably will still go to Valhalla Rising when i want my existential Viking story metaphor first, but it is really nice to have a second to go to as well.
