Guido! Or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the masses of people that drive me crazy.

Im not going to pretend that this masterpiece of Italian surrealist cinema is easy to digest or hold the attention of the modern film viewer. However, if one would get engaged, they would be swept away by the dream-like frustrations and searching of a depressed man who everyone wants something from. Much of the criticism of this film centers on its depiction of filmmaking and director’s block; however, I see the production of Guido’s sci-fi megalith as a representation of his larger-than-life reality utterly overwhelming him without providing much meaning or contentment. Ultimately, Guido learns to just find love from what’s in front of him, to unknown effects.
