Endure and survive.
“The circle of light is yours.”
Most will compare this to the likes of Lynch’s Fire Walk with Me, but I was far more moved by this as it reminded me of Gus Van Sant’s Last Days. A ghost story much more moving and concerned about the misfortunes of fame and trauma than it is a damnation of the legacy of the woman it portrays with a harrowing unease.
What began as one of the most truthful creators of our time making beautiful stories about finding hope and trusting the world based on faith ends on a completely antithetical and feverish note in which dead actors are literally brought back to life using unfinished effects. Muschietti uses every tool in his arsenal to craft one of the most lifeless and disgraceful films ever made. Gone are the days of mythical filmmaking; where heroes are stuck in a grey area of right and wrong. Enter an age of anti-art, utterly devoid of faith or humanism. Maybe the worst film ever. A beautiful lie.
