Whiplash 2014
Second viewing. This movie is an amazing character study, has so much energy, and is a stunning portrayal of an abusive relationship. I was all in on the movie… until the ending when the abuser is clearly victorious and the abused basically says “thank you, you were right”. I find this conclusion deeply unsettling. The idea that you have to be tortured to make great art is bullshit.
