Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Judas and the Black Messiah is an impactful, compelling, and heartbreaking film that was based on the true events of Fred Hampton, who was a deputy chairman of the national Black Panther Party.
Like Spencer, I was completely unfamiliar with this historical event. This movie makes me want to learn about this matter and that's one of the best things that a film based on true events can do, in my opinion.
I was so invested in this story. It does a fantastic job of highlighting the issues during this time period. The plot is incredibly compelling and the script is brilliant and uplifting.
Easily the best thing about this film though comes from Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield. Daniel Kaluuya as Hampton was brilliant. He was so convincing as the chairman of the national Black Panther Party. He was really on another level and he brought an aura that added even more layers to this movie. LaKeith Stanfield also does a fantastic job as O'Neil. He does a great job of showcasing this conflicted character. The rest of the cast was also really great but Kaluuya and Stanfield blew it out of the park. On a technical level, this movie has incredible cinematography and really well-made setpieces to go along with the time period in this is set in. Overall, I would say this is one of the best movies that was released in 2021. It's incredibly impactful and important and I loved almost everything about its runtime.
