After really falling for Mills’ work with The National — an all-encompassing, earnest encapsulation of life told with enough formal intrigue to lighten its heavy hand — I was ready to give his feature work another chance but I can’t take this tasteful, maudlin, precocious bit (really, the manic 9 year old who spends his Saturdays listening to Wagner?) at feature length.
