Once upon a Tom in Hollywood’s review published on Letterboxd:
People forget about the creatures who live in shells.
Why I Watched: Blame it on Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, and an AMC A-List subscription itching to be used.
Review: An engaging, if somewhat unbelievable, melodrama set on the Carolina coast and featuring Daisy Edgar Jones as a convincingly innocent "marsh girl" outsider accused of a heinous crime. David Strathairn is very good, playing her kindly lawyer. But the film quite regularly fails to connect the dots between plotlines and character motivations, leading to many head-scratching moments along the way and far too little opportunity for viewers to actually decode the central mystery for themselves. I was genuinely surprised by the ending, but not necessarily in a good way.
Verdict: Skip It.
Playing now only in theaters.
