Stevie’s review published on Letterboxd:
Where the Crawdads Sing is part romance, part courtroom piece, part straight up drama. And honestly, in spite of my complete lack of interest in this film previous to watching it, it’s a pretty solid mix that turns into a good movie altogether. Not perfect by any stretch, the romance part in particular wasn’t too interesting, in general or in the context of the film. I’m also unshakably certain that the book is better and that I’m missing half of what’s good (though then again, considering the controversy surrounding it, maybe not). I get the argument for why it’s bad, it’s pretty sappy and a little generic. But I choose to see it as a well intentioned attempt at a good movie. Strong altogether.
